Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

phd social work Dec 14, 2023

Members of professional organisations must meet set Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours to keep their membership. Similarly, Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students also must meet CPD requirements...but self awareness and emotional maturity is required.

My starting point as a PhD student, is always the digital and visual landscape of Professor Tara Brabazon from Charles Darwin University. A researcher and content creator of sonic delivery, she records all her trainings to meet the needs of people living in rural and remote settings or for people with complex lives that require collapsing of time to meet CPD requirements. I deeply appreciate that.

Her HDR YouTube channel has a depth of topic and insight. Academically generous to the Nth degree, Professor Tara offers something for every discipline. Check this one out about the Scholarship of Supervision.

Meeting CPD requirements for membership and compliance is one thing but emotional maturity mandates that self awareness is required so you make empowered choices about undertaking the CPD that you need

Self awareness includes knowing who speaks the style of language that you understand, the lens you can relate to and the voice that challenges your limited thinking. I am doing a PhD to learn AND contribute to, understand other views and challenge myself.

CPD is about being a grown-up and making choices. Are you emotionally mature enough to handle it?
